Honda Activa EV: Honda has recently launched the Activa H-Smart variant, which has brought keyless features. Atsushi Ogata, MD, and CEO of Honda Motorcycle and Scooter India (HMSI), also revealed the company’s EV roadmap at the event. It was already being speculated that Honda’s first EV for India would be an electric version of its bestselling Activa scooter. Now Ogata has put a stamp on it. According to him, Activa Electric can be launched in January 2024 next year. Now it will be interesting to see whether Activa Electric will be able to gain the same popularity as its ICE-based counterpart.
Most of the new launches in the electric two-wheeler space intend to outperform their closest competitors in terms of range, top speed, performance, specs, etc. But for Honda Activa EV, the company may go ahead with a completely different approach. Reliability can be more focused on Activa Electric. It is expected to reach a top speed of 50 kmph, which is much lower than the prevailing industry average of around 80-100 kmph.
Barring some important EV-specific changes, the scooter is likely to remain largely similar to the current model. The Activa Electric could feature a fixed battery setup. The range of the Activa Electric is likely to be modest, especially when compared to the Hero Vida V1 Pro, which has a range of 165 km. Its price will be slightly higher than the current petrol Activa.
