In reality, the government had announced
in August starting on November 1 various products, including laptops, tablets, and PCs, will be subject to the license system. This item is significant in this context. Sunil Barthwal, the secretary of commerce, stated, “We believe that there is no such ban on computers. Simply put, we’re suggesting that imports of computers will be strictly regulated so that we can keep an eye on them. We are actually monitoring,” he declared. The penalties have nothing to do with this.
The mechanism for managing imports
Santosh Kumar Sarangi, director general of foreign trade (DGFT), stated that the import management system will be put into place on November 1 in this regard. He stated that work in this area is ongoing and that it should be completed before October 30. To increase domestic production and reduce imports from nations like China, the government had in August implemented import limits on laptops, computers (including tablet computers), microcomputers, and some data processing machines. The IT hardware business had expressed worry following this notification.
Customs fees
To encourage domestic production of electrical products, the government has taken a number of actions. These include a program for incentives tied to production and higher customs taxes on electronic components. Each year, India imports products worth 7-8 billion dollars.
